Overview
Orthodontics is the branch of Science and the art of dentistry which deals with the development and anomalies of the teeth and the jaws that affect oral health, esthetic and mental well being of the person. It also deals with the study and treatment of malocclusions, which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships during and after the growth is completed.
The Department of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics at Vishnu Dental Collage, Vishnupur, Bhimavaram was started in the year 2001 offers a undergraduate BDS and three-year post-graduate MDS program which was started in 2008, the degrees are awarded by the NTR health university, Vijayawada, Andra Pradesh, India.
The undergraduate and post graduate training program in Orthodontics is accredited by the Dental Council of India. The postgraduates, the teaching staff and all ancillary personnel work together within the ethos of a team. The course as a whole, including its content and its teaching staff, are appraised frequently enabling a constantly evolving process to ensure it meets the highest quality standards and is appropriate for modern orthodontics.
The department is well equipped with modern dental chairs and armamentarium, fully fledged Clinical laboratory, Sterilization section, Computers with internet connectivity. It offers a first class, all round educational experience with a blend of both young and experienced, enthusiastic teachers in the clinical, academic and research fields. only specialist staff participate in under-graduate as well as postgraduate teaching, in both theoretical, clinical and practical, and to carry out research projects.
The treatment of malaligned or misplaced teeth and abnormalities of the jaws, require special expertise. Under the direct supervision of the specialists multidisciplinary treatments for those suffering from facial deformity like cleft palate and other patients with special needs are performed in the department.
Beyond the teaching activities the department serves diverse populations of patients, their communities utilizing modern tools like digital x-rays and digital photographs and orthodontic software for diagnosis and treatment planning. Modern orthodontic techniques including lingual orthodontics and other forms of esthetic braces are available for the patients.
The vision of our Department is to make a universal impact by leading care providers from the “experienced based” art of orthodontics to the research tested knowledge base necessary to achieve quality treatment for individual patients.
Our department is continuously evolving with advancements in technology and research. Recently, Aligners a modern alternative to traditional braces have also been added to our scope. They are clear, removable, custom-made trays that apply gentle forces to move teeth gradually. It enables us to provide customized treatment plan to all our patients using the state of art – technology. Aligners can treat all malocclusions such as crowding, spacing, deepbite, open bite within the limitations and under the supervision of certified Orthodontists.
