Overview

Pharmacology is the branch of biology concerned with the study of drug action, it is the study of the interactions that occur between a living organism and chemicals that affect normal or abnormal biochemical function of living organism. The field encompasses drug composition and properties, synthesis and drug design, molecular and cellular mechanisms. The two main areas of pharmacology are pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. Pharmacodynamics studies the effects of a drug on biological systems, and Pharmacokinetics studies the effects of biological systems on a drug. In broad terms, pharmacodynamics discusses the chemicals with biological receptors, and pharmacokinetics discusses the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) of chemicals from the biological systems. The major systems covered in the study of pharmacology are General pharmacology, Autonomic nerves system, Cardiovascular System, Central nervous system, chemotherapy, Endocrinology, Blood, GIT, Autacoids and Dental pharmacology.

The Department of pharmacology has been functioning since the inception of this prestigious institution in 2002 under Dr. NTR University of health sciences & recognized by Dental Council of India. The department is committed to high quality teaching of Pharmacology to Dental students. The constituent faculties of the department work enthusiastically with immense passion for teaching by dynamically involving in several academic activities such as small group teaching, role play, communication skills, Quiz  and seminar for dental students which serves beneficial to them. The department is having a 150 sq feet HOD room, well equipped lab hall with a diameter of 1500 sq feet, 200sq store room and Smart demonstration Room with high quality Audio Visual facilities and wifi enabled. Practical’s involves preparation commonly used in dental practice like mouth wash, gargles, tooth powder, gum paints, dentifrices, astringents, styptics etc. and also training in proper prescription writing, Spotters and Clinical problems.

The major educational goals of the department of Pharmacology:

  1. To provide that education to the students which will facilitate them to serve the community; bound to ethics.
