Background

In India, oral health care providers are mostly concentrated in urban and suburban areas. Whereas, rural population with high disease burden, lack accessibility to oral health services. The rural areas which house 75% of the Indian population still have only one dentist caring for 2.5 lakh people; while it is one dentist for 10,000 people in the urban area.
Vishnu Dental College with a mission, “Oral health care for all” is in the pursuit of reaching even the last person in the community. Undergraduates, Postgraduates and faculty at VDC are involved in a wide range of outreach initiatives, traveling the length and breadth of West Godavari, East Godavari and Krishna districts to educate public on the importance of oral health, to Improve access to oral health care by overcoming barriers, to facilitate oral health promotion and integration with overall health, advocate for the oral health of the community in collaboration with voluntary organizations and NGOs.
